Our curriculum

Overview

Bonny Downs Nursery is a child-centred nursery, which means that children will spend much of their day engaged in self-directed learning.

The majority of the day will be free-flow, meaning children have the choice to engage in a range of activities independently and/or with their friends and peers – both indoors and outdoors – as well as taking part in adult-facilitated activities designed to develop the children’s needs and interests.

At Bonny Downs, we believe that children learn best through a play-based curriculum, supported from our experienced staff team who understand how best to engage with children in their play to support social interaction, language development and learning opportunities.

Some key attributes we seek to develop in children include self-confidence, problem solving, independence, curiosity, and language development.

And because we give families access to an innovative app, eyLog, you can stay connected with your child’s learning journey too. It provides regular news and photo updates, an instant messaging facility and the ability to track your child’s curriculum and development.

Key features

Whether your child joins our nursery as a Baby, Toddler or Pre-schooler, they will benefit from a varied and balanced programme that includes:

Age-appropriate educational content

We offer an engaging and approved curriculum, with daily focused activities based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Development Matters guidance.

It reflects a wide and varied learning experience, enriched through creative contexts and a values-based learning community, focusing on developing children’s character, curiosity and attitude to learning.

Innovative (and fun!) play sessions

These are carefully designed to encourage creativity, socialisation and support wellbeing and happiness!

We provide regular opportunities for the different age groups to meet, play and learn together too, to help support their social and intellectual development.

A great mix of regular and special activities

Our programmes are carefully designed to offer a rhythm of regular, structured daily and weekly sessions – along with a variety of special activities, including events, multicultural celebrations and offsite trips.

This helps ensure your child feels comfortable and confident to progress their learning, while making sure they never get bored and are introduced to new experiences that stretch their development!

Indoors and outdoors activities

Indoors activities are hosted in our brand new. purpose-built building.

Our outdoors sessions take place in our nursery courtyard, but also across our charity’s nearby sites, including our lovely community garden and spacious playing fields!

A focus on wellbeing and nutrition

Everything we do at our nursery is centred around creating a healthy and positive environment where your child will thrive emotionally, educationally and socially.

We also place a strong emphasis on nutrition, which you can read about here.
